From the ‘Concerns’ Desk ... Auguest 2008 The Next Stop Over In this latest issue of www.artconcerns.com we have tried to focus our attention on the art scene in the North Eastern states of India. Issues pertaining to the art scene of the concerned region are raised through an essay by Amrita Gupta Singh and it has also been touched upon by me in one of the book reviews. Contemporary Art from the North East is not still seen in its context. The region is strife ridden and the art of this region is also quite diverse. It is high time that we look at the artistic heterogeneity of the North Eastern states. I feel that the next stop of Indian contemporary art market is this region. The central Lalit Kala Akademy and the Khoj International Artists Workshop have done serious efforts to showcase the art from the North Eastern states. More involvement from other agencies is needed to highlight the North Eastern contemporary art. In this issue we also introduce two special columns; a cartoon column by the noted artist Manjunath Kamath and a market analysis and speculation column by the young curator and art writer Anubhav Nath. Like any other issue, this issue of www.artconcerns.com is rich in content. Hope you would enjoy reading all those interesting items with news, views and all the juice.
